Chief of Police Richard V.C. Busick IV
 
Richard V.C. Busick IV was born in Brooklyn, NY and raised on Long Island, and attended and graduated from the Lindenhurst Senior High School. After high school, he attended the University of Connecticut School of Pharmacy for five years and later received a Bachelor of Science degree from the Charter Oak State College in Connecticut.

A long time sports enthusiast, Chief Busick had dreamed of a career in professional baseball throughout high school and college. He had tryouts with the N.Y. Yankees, N.Y. Mets, and Atlanta Braves during the late 1960’s and early 1970’s. While an officer at the Manchester Police Department, he coached baseball, basketball and soccer at the high school level for three years. In addition to baseball, he enjoys fishing, boating, riding his motorcycle, and touring with his wife. He remains an avid fan of the N.Y. Yankees and the University of Connecticut Women’s and Men’s Basketball teams.

Chief Busick began his police career in August of 1976 at the Manchester Police Department in Manchester, Connecticut. The Manchester Police Department is an Internationally Accredited Police Department comprised of 120 officers and 30 civilian employees. During his career at Manchester, he was promoted through the ranks and held the positions of Patrolman, Detective, Sergeant, Lieutenant and Acting Captain. He was an original member of Manchester’s first S.W.A.T. team, and remained on the team for six years, and also training for several weeks with FBI S.W.A.T. teams. During his last two years at the Manchester Police Department, he was the Emergency Service Unit Commander, a 20-officer unit comprised of a Tactical Response, Tactical Support and Critical Incident Negotiation teams. For 3 ½ years, Busick coordinated and supervised a regional drug investigation task force consisting of police officers from three adjoining towns. They worked on a regular basis with agents from the FBI, DEA, U.S. Customs, and U.S. Postal Inspectors.

 

 

Retiring from the Manchester Police Department in September, 1999, Busick accepted the position of Chief of Police with the Troy Police Department in Troy, NH. He served in that capacity until August 2002, when he was hired by the Town of Swanzey to fill the position of Chief of Police at the Swanzey Police Department.

As Chief of Police he is responsible for directing and supervising the activities of the Swanzey Police Department in the maintenance of law and order and the protection of life and property from criminal activity, including the selection, training and management of personnel. As a police officer, he also responds to calls for service and investigates crimes and accidents.

He has been married to his college sweetheart for the past 30 years and now resides in the beautiful Monadnock Region. They have two wonderful children; a daughter who is a social worker and a son who is a Special Agent with the FBI. They are also the proud grandparents of a 4-year old granddaughter.
