The Swanzey Police Department has started Neighborhood Watches in town. Currently we have two neighborhoods taking an active role helping to assure that their neighborhood remains a safe place to live. The first Neighborhood Watch covers the Swanzey Street, California Street and North Winchester Street area. To date, thanks to the active co-operation with the residents in that area, we have been able to target their concerns and assist in reducing speeding complaints, loud noise complaints and suspicious vehicle/persons complaints. The second Neighborhood Watch covers the Highland Circle area. Although the Swaney Police Department has responded to a limited number of calls for service to this area of town, the residents have stated that they wish to keep it that way and by starting now they can insure this trend continues. Thanks to donations from the residents in both these areas of town, Neighborhood Watch Signs were purchased and will be placed in a visible area so that everyone traveling through will know that the citizens who live in that area will immediately report any suspicious persons or activities to the Swanzey Police Department. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of those residents who have taken an active role in assisting this program get off the ground. If you and your neighbors would like to start a Neighborhood Watch in your neighborhood, you can contact the Swanzey Police Department and arrange a meeting to discuss this option. Remember, “If you see it or hear it, report
it.” |

The Bravest-V-Finest Softball game places West Swanzey Fire and Rescue and friends against Swanzey PD and friends in a no-holds-barred, laugh-riot softball game. The winner of this prestigious game gets a rather large trophy and bragging rights for the year. The winner of the First Annual event was the FINEST, of course. The Finest beat the Bravest in an outrageously lop sided score that would be too embarrassing to post on this web site. The game however is only half the fun. Last year we had games, prizes and face painting for the kids. The kids all got involved in the fun with help from the Fire Dept. and proceeded to soak everyone with the Fire Dept’s forestry tanks. The Fire Dept may have lost on the scoreboard however, they certainly won with the on field jokes. The game and mini-kids fair is a fundraiser for the West Swanzey Fire & Rescue Company and the Swanzey PBA. Donations are requested and tickets for the game are sold in advance. Last year the game was held on August 31 and this year it will be held during the Old Home Days on July 19th. We would like to pay a special thanks to T-Bird of Swanzey for their donation, as well as Party by Design of Keene for donating the Dunk Booth and Moon Bounce, which was a huge hit with the kids (both young and old). |
